We had our first interview today- it went really well but after a lot of explanation and questions its not the school for us. Too much bureaucracy and paperwork to be worth it. Then we went and viewed a few flats- and found the one we want! Its only $400 a month all inclusive with a 3-month first contract. Its a beautiful little 1-room place with a futon sofa, small table and chairs, basic kitchen and nice room with a wardrobe and air conditioning. Its in a house where the owner and his family live in the bottom 3 floors and the top theee are rentalflats. Its in a really nice neighbourhood right near the cental area and the opera house. Were just waiting to hear back from the agent and hope to be moving in on Tuesday if everything is sorted by then!
After that we went walkin some more, had lunch at our favourite place again (£2.90) and then for dinner to the most wonderful restaurant- our favourite pricier (and when i say pricier i still only mean less than £10 each) place- Essence Cafe. Most of the young and very professional staff remembered us from the summer. We got to chatting to one girl about teaching english and wanting to do more affordable community based lessons. Word spread very fast among the staff and most of them lingered around our table getting up the nerve to chat to us! We were there over 2 hours jusf talking to them as they went by! So we are going to start setting up small 6-people groups throughout the week- they were so lovely and enthusiastic about learning. I was so happy when we left I couldve wept- this is what I got into teaching for!
Then we wandered through the night market, which is wonderful. It brings everyone out, and the general feeling is one of optimism!
