This is Linh: she has joined our musical group and brings her traditional VN instrument with her. Its got a fantastic sound, especially combined with the modern music that we play. She's only 14 and is amazingly talented.

We went for an amazing walk the other day. Autumn has certainly arrived, and it is lovely, especially in contrast to the hot weather the rest of the year. The cool air makes for wonderful wanderings and a completely different feel to the city. We wandered about 10k and discovered so many beautiful old French Villas.

October in Hanoi

October. The mid autumn festival time is over in Vietnam and it has cooled down a bit.  The passing of General Vo Nguyen Giap was a major event for the Vietnamese people as he was vital in defeating the French colonial rulers in 1954. Giap is an enduring symbol of resistance against French and American forces and his death has caused an unusual outward display of emotion and grief. Giap was famous also for his outspoken views on the development of Vietnam after the foreign powers had left.
