The pictures weve put up so far arent really a patch on what weve taken: they are just the ones from my phone: we will try and upload more later. Our bus today is so much better than the last one- more clean and comfortable, although there is a CRAZY chinese film on that feels a bit like being on drugs in someones mad dream- truly bizarre!
We are now nearing the vietnamese border, and reflecting on cambodia. I feel like weve been here for weeks not days with the amount weve seen: its truly an assault on the senses. Weve been speaking to a man on the bus, cambodian who works in hcmc for
Bayer, the german company. Its hard to work out if there is a class system here- it would be based on money i am sure, but there seems to be a middle class of sorts: those who are making a nice living and yet not rich: still unable to afford international travel. Theres so much more i would like to learn about the people here. From what ive read so far about the rule of the Khmer Rouge, i am amazed how the country has managed to rebuild even to this extent, how people are resilient and can move ever forward. I guess its what we do. Keep moving, pressing ahead. Sometimes it just seems incredible just what we can move on from. I camt entirely get my head around just what happened: how a people can massacre themselves from the inside.
~later~
we are now at a cafe 2000metres from the border. The bus boys are using cigarette lighters and old wires to fix some battery/engine problem so were not sure how long we might be here :) its quite amusing this far, buy we will see where we are in a few hours!
